Why your Skin needs Micellar Water – DIY Tutorial

Let me introduce you girls to the biggest rave in international skincare- micellar water! It is a fairly unknown concept to Indian market. It started off by the french women and have been in use for years! The world makeup industry took it from there and beauty bloggers cant stop talking about it. Now, what is a micellar water?  Micellar water is a skincare product that removes makeup and cleanses the skin, without the need for rinsing. Yes! I could never imagine skincare without cleansing and washing my face clean. Now you know why miscellar water is a milestone product.

It is not a cream, not a face wash and not a toner. Micellar water takes its name from micelles, tiny round balls of cleansing molecules that float in the water. When you apply the product to your skin, the cleansing agents come into contact with oil and dirt on your face, allowing them to be swept away quickly and efficiently. Micellar water is the most gentle way to remove makeup from your skin while nourishing it naturally.

How to use it: Soak a cotton ball with the solution and sweep it across your whole face. Use more if you have heavy makeup on your lips and eyes. There is no need to rinse afterwards. Apply a suitable serum or moisturizer to your skin. Micellar waters are great for travel or for situations where no running water is easily available. Especially those long travels in India! Remember the time I told you about my Bhutan trip? I wish I had it back then. Being soap-free, it’s not harsh on the skin and cleanses gently leaving skin feeling soft. It is ideal for the sensitive skin.

In case you want to buy, these are the options available in India.

The most popular one in International market is the Garnier Micellar water. Hopefully, they will introduce it in India soon. Now, I want to tell you how I made my own miscellar water and you can too! Here is a simple DIY recipe for making your own micellar water.

You need:

  • Empty product case (with a pump)
  • Sterilized water
  • Essential Oil like Jojoba, tea tree (for acne prone skin),ylang ylang or rose oil.

Mix about 100ml water with 4-5 drops of essential oil in the product case. You can even mix a few type of essential oils. Just don’t go overboard with the oil quantity. You can even label it for ease of access. Mix well before every application as the oil will form a layer on top.

I used my Sattvik skin serum which I reviewed earlier here, to prepare m own micellar water. Since it contains all natural contents and ayurvedic roots, I found it suitable for my skin. This kind of micellar water is not as effective as the market ones, but sure does the job. I’d prefer this DIY version over the market ones as it is even more mild and has absolutely no preservatives added.
